Hello Svecrus,

you found this in the Baltic I presume.

I believe this is a Patagon or a Half Patagon on the name off philips the fourth. Philips the fourth died in 1665, but it might be that there where already dies made for 1666. It might also be a forgery from someone who did not know that Philips the fourth had died and put the year 1666 on it. What is the weight off this piece ? Karl the second was a invalid as well as mentally ill. So there might have been an other reason for putting the name off Philips IV on this coin.

If you wish to sell let me know what you want for it. You can email me or send me a personal message.

With kind regards,

Francois

Hello Gintaras,

This coin is not minted in Antwerp as I stated before, but in Brugge. I found is on a list somewhere here on www.muntstukken.be So it has been recorded and will probably be a posthumus strike. I am not sure if you know what i mean, but this happened in Deventer Kampen and Zwolle multiple times by using the name off a already dead emperor on the florins they struck.

With kind regards,

francois

Hello Gintaras,
as stated before Philips IIII died in 1665 but  in Bruges they continued minting under the name of Philips IIII after his death til 1666.
For the year 1666 they minted also under the name of Carol II . My guess is that the the minting stamps weren't ready

under the name of Philips III  :

Ducaton 1666 minted in Bruges, Antwerp and Brussels - quantity unknown
Patagon 1666  bruges   131373 ex (together with 1665)
Half ducaton  bruges 32846 ex (together with 1665)
Half patagon  bruges 21607 ex (together with 1665)

best regards
