Vraag ivm "1908 Double Eagle" (met foto's)

Ik moest wat wachten vooraleer mijn account werd goedgekeurd dus maakte ik eerder al een post op een ander forum, maar aangezien er nog geen antwoorden zijn zijn jullie mss wel de redders in nood

Aside from being very interested in money I don't know anything about coins, so I hope you guys could help me out.

I got a coin a few days ago and I don't know whether it is a real or a fake, but I know that it comes from somebody who used to invest in gold among other things and that it's entirely possible that that person bought it around 1908 (the time that's mentioned on the coin itself). But I can't ask the person himself since he passed away a few decades ago.

I've read some threads here before posting and since it's completely forbidden it seems to even clean a coin I'm guessing this one will be considered ruined since it's put in a hanger of sorts (not actually forged into it but held in place by the hanger).

Anyway, long story short, I don't intend on selling it or anything at all, but it only recently came to my attention and out of curiosity I'd like to know whether it is real, and if it is whether it has any value left at all and if there's anything particular to say about the coin other than that.

There's nothing written on the edge of the coin, which seems strange to me because most if not all other coins I've ever looked at had something on the side, which makes me wonder whether it is real, but I don't know.

Under the date there's something that looks like AC but with A and C on top of eachother, I have no idea what that means?

Voor zover ik kan zien is dit een echt 20 dollarstuk 1908, geregistreerd in Krause onder KM127. Dit 20 dollarstuk zou (uit de hanger gehaald) ongeveer 33,4360 gram moeten wegen, waarvan 90% goud (±30 g zuiver goud). Aan de huidige goudprijzen is het stuk dus al zeker een kleine 600 euro waard. Ik vrees dat dit ook de waarde van het stuk zo min of meer zal zijn. Door de staat waarin het is, door het inklemmen en door het hoge slagaantal van meer dan 4 miljoen stuks, wordt de waarde voornamelijk bepaald door het goudgehalte.

I agree with Jupke, your coin looks genuine to me, but not worth much more than gold content.

By the way, under the date you find the designer's initials ASG for Augustus Saint Gaudens.
