Hello to everyone,
I have got this coin lately with alot of Liards, most of them I have identified now, and wanted to find out where this one was Struck.
Here is a Picture:

Actually I think it is a 1/4 Liard (Oord) or 1 Liard (Oord), strucked under Philip II in Spanish-Netherlands. I couldn't find this type of coin on the web, but the Portrait looks like Philip II.
While i was searching on Coinarchives i have seen a coin with that type/style of Crownsymbol and 4 arrows around it, it looked like the same. It said it was from Tournai (Tournaisis) but Wikipedia and other pages couldn't show me their coat of arms.
I am thankfull for every help that I could get.

Best regards

@ usen,
What is the size of this coin? It resembles very much the Courte (Korte) struck at Antwerp (vGH 229.1). A Courte is 2 Mites, thus 1/6 Liard.

Hello RobKooy,
thank you for your fast reply!

The coin is 18,5-19mm in diameter and the weight is 1,94gramms.
What i have never seen before was the Revers (the left side on the Picture). I thought it could be a regional coat of arms, or the coat of some town.

I dont have any Books about those coins yet, but I like the Liard very much and got a couple of those now. Are there more books about those coins? Maybe complete, not like DeMay's regional versions..?
Would be nice if you or someone else could tell me more.

Is my thought about the ruler correct? (Philip II?)
Alot of Questions for someone new in that region of coins. I hope its not too much Smiley .
Best regards

Dit is Vanhoudt I 125, een KORTE van Filips II.
Geslagen zonder jaartal te Brugge of Nijmegen (muntteken niet te herkennen).

@ usen,
My idea that this is not a Liard but a Korte (1/6 Liard) is confirmed by Swa.
There is a good, comprehensive, and informative book describing the coins of this period. Alas it is in French and it has been out of print for many years.
LES MONNAIES DES PAYS-BAS BOURGUIGNONS ET ESPAGNOLS 1434-1713, by H.Enno van Gelder and Marcel Hoc. Published 1960 (supplement 1964).

Hello again,
@Swa: thank you for that Information and confirming RobKooys thought. It helps me to sort this coin into the collection.

@RobKooy: Thank you for the advice of the book, but does that book has Illustrations/Pictures? Or how many does it have?
I ask because my French is not so good, but Illustrations/Pictures would help me to find the part of the book wich is relevant, so I could learn the contense step by step.

@ usen,
The book has 34 pages of good quality b/w pictures in which one type of most coins are represented. Many coins, however, especially those struck under Philip II, have been struck in a number of provincial mints and types may vary from mint to mint. That's why the texts of the book also are important.

@ RobKooy:
yes, that is why I asked for the coins, but when I have pictures, and a text that relates on the Pictures, I can work with it.

Now its only about to find this book! But I will try.

Thank you again! and I have to say: This is a good forum for the coins I collect!
